Middleboro High School Student Receives the Nathan L. Childs' Performing Arts Scholarship

Middleboro: Middleboro High School student Katie Johnson was awarded the Nathan L. Childs' Performing Arts Scholarship on June 8, 2015. Katie and Nathan were cast members in the Middleboro High School production of Grease in January. During the rehearsal process, they became close friends. Nathan returned to heaven on January 18, 2015, following a car accident that occurred the weekend of the show.

Nathan's mother Lori Rea established a scholarship in Nathan's memory. Nine seniors and two juniors at Middleboro High School were awarded the scholarship. The Nathan L. Childs' Performing Arts Scholarship was established at The Burt Wood School of Performing Arts this spring.

During the performances of Alice in Wonderland, audience members purchased 50/50 raffle tickets. Over $700.00 was collected. These funds, in combination with money donated by Lori, created a $1200.00 scholarship for Katie Johnson. Katie will be able to use this scholarship for classes at The Burt Wood School of Performing Arts. "I am honored to receive this scholarship in Nathan's memory. Every time I am on stage, I will remember his caring spirit. He was a talented, thoughtful person and an amazing friend."
